Best Time to Visit Udaipur (Month-by-Month)

Udaipur is beautiful most of the year, but the experience shifts a lot with the seasons — lake levels, temperature, crowds and prices all move together. Here's how to pick the right window for your trip.
October to March: Peak Season
This is the classic window for Rajasthan travel. Daytime temperatures sit in a comfortable range for walking around City Palace and the old city, evenings are cool enough for a light jacket, and the lakes are usually at healthy levels after the monsoon. It's also the busiest and priciest stretch, so book hotels and cars a little ahead, especially around Diwali and the winter holidays.
April to June: Summer
Summer in Udaipur is hot and dry, with afternoon temperatures climbing well above what most travellers find comfortable for outdoor sightseeing. That said, this is when you'll find the best hotel rates and the thinnest crowds at monuments. If you travel in this window, plan sightseeing for early morning and after 4 PM, and keep an air-conditioned car on standby for the middle of the day.
July to September: Monsoon
Monsoon transforms Udaipur — the lakes fill up, the surrounding Aravalli hills turn green, and the light after a rain shower is spectacular for photography. Showers tend to be short and irregular rather than constant, so most days still leave plenty of time for sightseeing between spells. Fewer tourists means a quieter, more relaxed City Palace and lakefront.
Festivals Worth Timing Your Trip Around
- Mewar Festival (March/April) — a colourful spring celebration with processions along Lake Pichola.
- Shilpgram Utsav (December) — a crafts and folk-culture fair on the edge of the city.
- Diwali (October/November) — palaces and ghats lit up across the city; book well ahead if visiting now.

For most first-time visitors, late October through February gives the best balance of comfortable weather, full lakes and manageable crowds. If you're after quieter photography and don't mind the occasional shower, July to September is an underrated choice.
